Killing Fields and Guns

Today will go down as one of the surrielest days of my life anyway.
We ate breckfast ,which came on time, and hooked up with Hai and his nice car to head straight for the Killing Fields. No messing today.
Like Angkor Wat , its hard to say anything about his place as its beyond words. Thousand of skulls and bones and mass graves everywhere you look. The bones and clothes of bodies stick out of the ground everywhere. Heavy Heavy place and gets you right in the gut, its unbelivable what happened here and probably more with the fact that now, there is a school next door and this is just a quite field.
A concequence of the wars and conflicts going on here in the last few decades is the country is armed to the hilt. Everyone here is in reach of a gun. Some enterprising locals have built a firing range on the edge of the city where you can go and fire them for $.
The taxi driver dropped us of here after the Killing fields, it was quite odd to be coming to this place after being at that place. Ive heard about this range for years as kind of urban ledgand and said Id check it out when I was here.
You walk into this little shack and the is a wall full of guns. The bloke comes over with a menu for you. It looks like a food menu but just list weapons you can shoot and the prices. They also sell you a coke or a beer with your rifle.
I ended up shooting an M16, AK47, M60 Machine Gun and a Colt.45 pistol. They also had Anti Aircraft cannons, Rocket launchers and grenades if you got the money. crazy.
I will be honest and say it was great fun and exctiting but it was a bit scary how easy it is to point and shoot. Once you remember what these things are made for you cop on a bit .
Still, big bang- good fun!!
Next was S-21. Khemer Roughe interrigation center in a high school in the middle of the city. 17,000 people went in and 12 came out. a really really haunting and scary place. everything has been left as it was when liberated and there are pictures of the victams all over the walls. Very sad. When you are sitting in the court yard absorbing it all you notice that the structure next to you is a set of gallows and its not plesant.

After those contrasting experiances Hai took us to the Russian Market in the city which is huge, giant market where you can by anything. We floated around there for a half hour or so and then got dropped for lunch which was really nice. It rained like crazy for an hour.
Hai picked us up and dropped us a really nice temple but at this point between all the travel and general tourist stuff we were bushed. We got him to drop us at out hotel where we just conked out that evening. Food and there were lots of Jazz fags in the place as there is not much problem when all the Pizzas on the menu are 'Happy'"

Booked ticket for a much needed trip to the sea side to absorb all that :)
Bed
