The story so far.....
Hi All,
First off sorry to all of those I'd saidI'd email and I have not done so so far! This has been a combination of bad/no internet, travel and pure dang lazyniess on my part. Sorry guys I hope this little blog will make up for thigs and I will try update it as often as I can if you fancy reading it!
Also I will apoligise for my spelling/grammer and punctuation. Basically I suck when Word is not installed ; )
So with out further ado this is wot me a Dee have been up to:
So we left Dublin on Monday the 4th Sept. It was a manic day running around trying up loose ends that I should have tied up ages ago but all the partying in the few weeks up to that kinda absorbed my time and the work pi$$ up took its toll (cheers Killian and the gang)
We flew to Frankfurt at 18.30, it took 2 odd hours next to a Vietnamese bloke who was only carrying one bag filled with cigerettes, i mean thousands, he was going to holiday in China and Vietnam and did not like the smokes there. He did not need any other luggage apparently...
We connected pretty much straigt away as the plane was 30 mins late from Dublin, it was close but great we did not have to hang around Frankfurt in the middle of thenight, dull place.
Got a 747 which was absolultly full. To our dissapointment it should 1 crap filim 2 hours before we landed. A few glasses of wine and a little spleepy pill and we were gone till before landing :)
Landed in Bangkok 14.00 in the afternoon which was handy, cleared customs with the usual 'Midnight express paranoia' I always have at coustoms (I would never dare carry anything dodgy!!!!) Got a bus from Don Moung Airport to the Kho San Road, mecca for every reborn hippie backpacker type in Aisa. Its mentally busy, full of western tourists but very cheap and easy to arrange further travels and Visa's etc. Stayed the first night in a pretty decent hotel with aircon, clean sheets and aTV, a step up from my last time out here!! It cost us 700 Baht, 14 Euro odd for the two of us, would cost maybe 10 times that in Dublin.
Went out that evening to a new open air restraunt on the top of the street,by the temple for dinner that evening. We hadsome of the best food we ever had and got hammered on mad cocktails for about 1500 Bhat in total. That is going overbvoard here as well!
If you go into a shop a pint bottle of beer is 70c and a bottle of Smirnoff is maby 8 Euro. Happy days.
The next morning we got the bus to go to an Island in the gulf of Thailand called KoChang. About 6 hour bus ride and 1 hour on a little Ferry. I would reccomend this to anybody coming out here as the best island I have been to out here, by far. Its a marine park so not really deveoped at all, its all king kong jungle mountians and white sand, turquoise waters, palm trees, blah blah blah, you get the jist!! It was night when we got there so we tried to book into some beach huts called tree house which was a place built out of wood on platforms going out into the sea illuminated buy mad paper candles, very tripped out!
They were full so we went 100 yards to the next set of beach huts and got a shack for 200 Baht, 2 Euro each per night!!! That night we wnet back to tree house and had dinner and Buckets.
I have to explain buckets.
Its whats people dink out here, a lot of young Thais also. Its basically a bucket like one your grandparents had when they could not make the toilet. they half fill it with thai whisky/Vodka or Rum and the mixer of fruit juice or reb bull/coke. then they stick a load of ice and few straws and a little flower in it and 3 or 4 of you can have a very plesent communial dink. agian 200bhat which is a tad dangerous. We have indulged in a few sice.
So that night was buckets , reggae music and bongos.
The next mornig we had a look at the island as I described above and went swimming. I dont wanna harp on about it but it is bounty bar territory.
That day was very lazy, eat , sunbath and more buckets.
The next day we moved to a more stylish place called Nature Beach on lonly beach. Everything here was great, big barbacues every night with red snapper,Prawns, squid , all sorts, mad sunsets, good tunes and a fire show every night by the lads that work there. You could serously waste time here.
While there we ment a few heads including a spanish couple Antonio and Sonja (Hi!!) who proceeded to be as bad influences on us as we were on them!! We had a mad one every night from then on, like ground hog day. Buckets, jazz cigatettes and guitar jams untill the small hours!
After a few days of this Dee and I thought we should get off our arses and do something so we booked a boat trip with some diving and snorkeling for 8 the next morning as Antonio and Sonja had done it and said it was great.
Sods law we woke up the next day and the weather was shite and the sea was very rough so the boat trip was cancelled. We had breckky and decided we should leave before we get stuck there, in hind sight we should have stayed a few more days compaored to where I write this from now (more in a minute)
We got back to Bangkok that evening and booked into a place i had stayed in a for a while the last time I was here called 'My House' at the back of the Temple on top of Ko San Rd, a bit quiter that KoSan but still full of TukTuk drivers (mental cases on 3 wheel death machines which bring you every where you want to go, I mean every where) Taxis and Indian blokes trying to sell you suits who are a bit more pushy than the thia balggers, they can get on your tits a bit but I am mastering the art of ignoring people :)
It was odd to stay in the same place as 6 years ago, it was exactly the same and I half expected to see that samepeople I met back then agian! Its 350Bhat a night and is pretty good place to stay if any of you want a have decent cheap place.
We poked about Ko san that night and had an early night.
The next day we did laundry, got new books and did not do much else as we were not sure where to go because of the wet season being at its tail end at the moment. We were going to go to Ko Phi Phi but decided agianst it because of time constraints, its takes a day to get there and a day back so you are talking a week at least to make it worth it. We dropped Ko Phi Phi and stared planning the cambodia/vietnam/lao side of things. Cambodia you can get a visa on the border but for Vietnam you MUST have a visa before you get there which you get in Bangkok but takes 3 working days. This being thursday meant we would be in bangkok for the weekend and that was not very attractive. So we picked a place called Pattya about 2 and a half hours outside of bangkok. We got up the next morning, had breckfast and got a taxi (after some haggeling) accross bangkok to get the local bus from the Governmant station, it cost us 90Bhat each on a proper coach (the tourist bus cost 300 Bhat each and it and its Hi Ace mini van drivin by nutters on anphetamines, not joking)
So we got to Pattya 3 in the afternoon. How to describe this place? For me the 7th level of hell, although it is quite a funny tripped out place to visit!!! Basically its the biggest resort in Thailand and were a lot of package trips from Europe go to, Costa del Aisa type thing.
Made of 3 areas North, Middle and South. We choose the middle beach as its supposed to be the cheapest.
Its at least twice as expenive as anywhere Ive been in Thailand and is full of Go Go bars, Bar Girls,Prostitutes, Fat middle age English, German,Irish,French Sex tourists with thier teenage bar girl draped over them. Its a mad place to see but a little freaky all the same. Also Neon mad land at night, like Veagus on mushrooms. You gotta pay 60 Baht to sit on the dirtyist beach I have seen here surrounded by these fellow 'Tourists'
Haveing Dee next to me is saving a lot of hassle from pimps and bar girls, thanks honey ;)
The best thing about Pattya is we bargened at a hotel and got a room for 700Bhat.We had been walking for an hour in the heat so were very sweaty, Dee saved the day finding it.
Its on the 5th floor of a high rise, with air con, TV with a 100 channels (unless its raining and then they stop because of the clouds), clean sheets every day and a fridge which we have stocked with Vodka beer and munchies. We also bought some pirate DVD's and rented out a DVD player for later tonight.
So that where we are right now and where I type this from, saturday the 16th ,17.00
We went out last night for dinner but all the food here is nearly western prices. We walked untill we found a local place which looked OK but were served ABSOLUTE MANK as food, it was vileness that I cant describe, my chicken noodles had no chicken in then and was rolling in grease. The meat that was in there was very odd indeed and I have a sneaking suspicion that mayby it could have been mans best friend. I quiver to think. Dee's 'chicken' was worse so we paid the bill, gave the girl a tip as she was just standing there and I am a sap and we legged it when no one was looking leaving the food virtually untouched.
For the first time in my life I can say that we found aMcDonalds and I am the happest man on earth. We had Big Macs to get that taste out of our mouths and will be living out of there and the 7/11 untill we leave tomorrow.
I never thought Id be happy to see McDonalds but in this mad place I am a firm fan.
Today we were trying to get tans but the sun went in the moment we hit the beach so we came back to the hotel. Dee has crashed out ande I am here.
So thats it so far.Tonite we are going (after macc'ers) to a supposedly really good blues band in a place called the blues factory on the main strip and tomorrow we go back to Bankok to get vietnam visa sorted and see the sights proper in that even madder place.
Will report to y'all next time, hopefully tomorrow, sorry for being a ;azy sod on the email, I still love you all!!! xxxxxxxx
